Sultans
Have you ever heard of a Sultan? These beautiful birds originate from Turkey, and are one of the most fascinating breeds and one of the rarest, being critically endangered according to the Rare Poultry Society.
They are traditionally all white, which is the breed standard and they have beautiful pom pom heads with long feathered legs. They are a very gentle breed and very affectionate towards their humans in my experience.
There are considerations when keeping Sultans:
-
They require a mud free zone especially in winter as the feathers on their legs could snap; a good wood chipped run will help.
-
They are not the hardiest breed - UK is a lot colder than Turkey. These guys will require a little more attention in cold conditions, with draught exclusions and dry conditions. For example, mine live in a wooden dog run.

Silver Deathlayers (Westfälische Totleger)
This wonderful breed originates from Germany, and is around 400 years old.
Their name Silver Deathlayer is because they lay until death unlike most other breeds of chickens that naturally slow down as they get older.
They lay a medium sized white egg, typically producing 200+ per year. They are hardy, active and inquisitive birds and a wonderful and productive addition to the garden.

Brahma Large
One of the biggest chicken breeds in the world and one of the most popular, but don’t let their size and vulture-like stare fool you - they are complete sweethearts.
Both hens and cockerels are very docile and friendly, and come in many beautiful variations from solid colours to pencilled patterns. The hens work very well within a mixed flock making them a wonderful addition to the garden.
Our Brahmas have been carefully selected for breeding in accordance with size, colour and conformation, as well as their health.
Other than the darks, some of these birds are first generational colour, which means that some have different colours that are close to recent parentage. These colours could come through in chicks from our hatching eggs and will take me a couple of years to get them to breed true - but hang tight, they’ll be worth it!
Please note, cockerels should be kept with similar size hens as their amorous behaviour may harm smaller hens.

Poland Large
Otherwise known as the Polish, this is one of the most hilarious chicken breeds. These funny little birds are instantly recognisable with their funky Pom Pom heads.
They are beautifully eye catching, and while they can make wonderful additions to your flock they come with a few considerations. It’s generally not advisable to keep Polands with other breeds as they have vaulted skulls, which leaves them susceptible to injuries from other poultry if they are pecked on top of their heads.
It's sometimes hard to see with a big Pom Pom on your head and therefore they are easily startled, so Polands may need a slight hair cut from time to time.
If you can deal with a big haired drama queen then these are the chickens for you! We keep Polands only in Chamois colour; one type of these crazy-haired creatures is enough for me!

Brahma Bantam
If you love the look of the large Brahmas but have limited space, then these little guys are the perfect fit. Just like their larger counterparts they are very docile and sociable little birds with bags of personality.
They work brilliantly in mixed flocks and are instantly eye-catching with the pencilling in their feathers. They can seem quite slender when they are under a year old, but as they fully mature they will really fill out.
Brahma bantams are very hardy, but as with any feathered leg breed make sure ground conditions aren’t too muddy.
I have worked very hard the last couple of years with these guys and in 2025 purchased some new cockerels from Reece Thomas's showing lines. These boys will be paired with my best hens and I’m really excited to see what quality birds we have this year.

Wyandotte Bantam
These are pretty, social and comical little birds with big personalities and come in an array of different colours and patterns. They are known for being quite a broody breed, so be prepared for them screaming at you from the nesting box! They work well in mixed flocks, but do tend to have little-person-syndrome, so don't be surprised if they boss the bigger hens around.
For hatching eggs, some of our colours are first/second generation, so there could be other colours that come through the bloodline.

Pekin Bantam
One of the most popular and characterful breeds of chicken, with its round little body, fluffy legs and lovely nature, the Pekin makes a wonderful pet, especially for children.
Pekins can come in various different colours and patterns with lavender, cuckoo and black both having around 50% chance of being frizzled or smooth. They work well in mixed flocks, but due to their small size it’s best to pair them with our other bantam breeds, especially if there is a cockerel present.
